Visiting Manhattan

New York City was once the capital of the United States and even though it has long since ceded that honor to Washington, D.C. it remains the most popular destination in the country. Home to countless museums, galleries, and historic landmarks, New York City is actually comprised of five individual boroughs, each with its own unique character and energy. While Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island, and Queens all have their attractions and appeal, Manhattan is the borough most people think of when they think of New York.

The famous New York skyline owes its beauty to the skycrapers of Manhattan. As the city’s financial center, Manhattan is home to not only Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange, but to the world headquarters of most of the largest corporations in the world. Every major television network is headquartered here along with several cable television networks. Manhattan is also where you’ll find the United Nations headquarters and a number of prestigious universities.

For those looking for a more cultural experience, Manhattan is the place to be. Check out Lincoln Center for the opera, ballet, symphony and other performing arts, and Broadway for the best in theater. Manhattan is also home to museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Guggenheim which feature some of the greatest art collections in the world.

Visitors to Manhattan will find fabulous New York hotel suites offered at the many exclusive luxury hotels throughout the borough. They will also find some of the best shopping on the legendary 5th Avenue. And be sure to sample the unparelleled dining experiences offered by many of the world’s top chefs who have flagship restaurants in Manhattan.

Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without visiting some of the city’s popular landmarks. The Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, the Flat Iron building and the Chrysler building are all in Manhattan as well as the site of the World Trade Center and the under construction Freedom Tower which is scheduled to be complete in 2014. This is also where you’ll find Central Park and Times Square. And some of New York’s most famous neighborhoods are here too, like Greenwich Village and Harlem.
