The Hudson River

The Hudson river is a long river about 35 miles long and very deep river in places a 1,000 feet deep or more. The river berins in the Adrondack Mts from Lake Tear of the Clouds on Mount Mercey. The river makes its way out of the mountains past the capitol city of Albany, NY then down through eastern NY state to where is meets the upper New York bay at New York city. The lower half of the river is an estuary with tidal flows being detected as far north a Beacon some 80 miles up river from New York city. In 1609 Henry Hudson explored the area for the Dutch East India company, the river has been named after him. The first European to view the river were the exploration expidetion of Giovanni da Verrazano in 1524. He entered what is now known as New York bay but didn’t go up the river. Early European settlers to the area setteled mainly along the banks of the Hudson River. IN Troy NY, north of Albany the Hudson rivers and the Mohawk rivers join. Below this the river is wide, in places over a mile wide and deep enough that ocean going ships can navagate safely up the river to Albany and beyond. The river is flanked on both sides by beautiful rolling green hills. Much of the river is inexcessable from land as the hills in most places drop off in very steep angles into the river. A few places where the river is accessable by land cities and towns have grown up, these are the oldest towns on the river. Latter settelments were built up from the river in the hillsides and more inland. Teh river is a beautiful way to experience the beautiful scenery of New York state, enjoy recreation on the water, see the best hotels New York City, fish or enjoy a boat ride.
