The Cities & Villages of Mallorca


The island of Mallorca is known in the West as Majorca. This Balearic Island is located off the eastern coast of Spain in the Mediterranean. Drawn to the coastal beaches, great food, and fabulous nightlife, tourists have made Mallorca the most popular island destination in Spain. The island is actually home to a number of cities, towns, and villages that offer a variety of vacation experiences. You can find 5 star Mallorca hotels throughout the island, stay in one of the many teeming resorts, or choose a small hostel or rental cottage.

Palma de Mallorca is the largest city on the island. It is also the capital. Most visitors land at the Son Sant Joan Airport in Palma before spreading out to enjoy the rest of the island. Palma is home to many historic sites such as the Cathedral La Seu and the Castell de Bellver. Inca and Manacor, the next largest cities, are known for their industrial contributions to the island. Inca features leather factories while Manacor houses pearl factories.

With over seventy beaches on Mallorca, several of the towns make the most of their coastal advantage. Alcudia is known for both its beaches and its ideal cycling terrain. Cala Moraia offers smaller beaches as well as excellent golf courses. Puerto Pollensa is a family-friendly beach resort on the island’s north coast.

Other towns and villages to check out include Cala d’Or, an east coast resort that hosts an annual Jazz Festival. Deià is a haven for artists located in the Tramuntana mountains and home to an interesting cemetary. Fornalutx is a beautiful west coast village that is great for hiking. Sóllerand Valldemossa offer stunning mountain scenery while Pollença and Sineu (the geographical heart of Mallorca) are known for their markets.
