January 5th, 2011 The Best Web Pages Have Been Tested
It seems like such an obvious step, testing a website before making it live on the internet. However, many personal sites and even some business ones don’t conduct adequate Web Page Testing with the result that they debut broken or unusable sites. This leads not just to unhappy visitors, but it can result in lost sales for years to come.
Websites, like companies, aren’t just judged on the quality of their products and services. Over time the site develops its own brand identity and if that identity is negative, then many people will write off the site without even bothering to visit it. This can translate into years of lost sales. Even the best designed and most engaging website can ruin a company’s reputation if there are too many errors — especially if those errors interfere with the ability to complete purchases or fill out sales lead forms.
All those negatives can be avoided by conducting web page testing. Making sure that all the links, forms, and shopping features work properly is only part of the process. Testing that graphics as well as the pages themselves load properly and quickly is essential. Business sites should also run usability tests to make sure that the content and processes on the site make sense to the average user.
The very best web pages don’t just work properly. They are attractive and engaging, and are intuitive to use so that visitors can easily complete the intended actions.
