Shopping for a New Sound System

The days when music came from either a radio or a record player are long past (does anyone under 30 even remember record players?). Today’s electronics would look like a sci-fi movie to someone time traveling from the 1980s. Shopping for a state of the art sound system for your home can be a minefield of options, brands, and prices.

Before you start investigating brands like Pioneer you want to look at your home. Are the ceilings high? Are the rooms small? Does the wall construction create an echo? Then think about what music you’ll be playing. The high dulcet tones of a Soprano Opera Diva require a different setup than the pulsating beats of a rap star.

When you finally make it to the store, don’t worry about price tags at first. Listen to what sounds good to you and see if there actually is a difference in quality. You can always compare prices later. Maker sure you get a system with separate components and that you buy the highest quality cables you can find. Lastly, if you have to balance your budget, it’s always best to splurge on higher quality speakers than any other component.
