Brand New Buzz

When traveling through the Devon county town of Honiton, hotels, shopping centers, restaurants and opportunities for days and afternoons of shopping sprees abound.  Located within the center of town is a sports facility for those who like to work out while on vacation, with tennis courts and a swimming pool.  And just a bit outside of town, there is the Honiton Center where there are a number of independent and specialty shops, which include a book store, a jewelry shop, a sporting goods and fishing shop, a deli, a fish monger and a butcher all located within walking distance from each other.  Twice a week on Saturdays and Tuesdays, the outdoor flea market takes place on High Street.

There are also more than twenty antique stores which is a district that is very popular for those hunting for treasures.  And after enjoying a game of football with the Honiton Town F.C. the town’s football team, many head over to the Honiton ConClub.  This is also located conveniently on High Street, and has been a social meeting place for many years.  Sometimes everyone just head out for a drink, while other times various social events and celebrations occur at the club.

Another wonderful spot to visit and enjoy the outdoors is the Tregothnan Botanic and Tea Gardens.  The botanical gardens and the arboretum is the largest one in the region, with a variety of trees, plants and flowers many of them specimens of rare species.  There are also wide open spaces as well as groves that are secluded and peaceful.  This is a private garden so arrangements must be made ahead of time for tours.  The Tea Garden offers many varieties, some rare types of tea from Darjeeling and Magnolia.  In fact their Magnolia are some of the largest plants in cultivated in the world today, some reaching more than sixty feet in height.
