The Phoenix Suns is a veteran NBA basketball team based in Phoenix, Arizona. They play their home games in the US Airways Center, which was developed in the early 1990s. It is located in the revitalized downtown area known as Copper Square. This replaced their previous home at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, where it played its first 24 seasons. Sports tickets as well as tickets for other events are available at will call and by purchasing in advance online. The Suns are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the NBA.
The Suns are extremely popular in the Phoenix area, and have been the traditional favorite of the city, predating both the Arizona Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks, the local football and baseball franchises. The Suns are considered to be a strong team and have had solid success throughout their history, though they have never been able to win the NBA title. They have made it to the Western Conference Finals eight times. The Suns players are also popular in the community. They currently have four NBA superstars on the rooster and these are Steve Nash, Amar’e Stoudemire, Grant Hill and Jason Richards. The team was recently ranked in an ESPN article as the 5th best NBA franchise of all time.
The Suns, as well as do all major sports franchises, have gone through many different periods and transitions. One of the most well known was the era during which Charles Barkley played for the team. His first year in Phoenix he won the MVP title. Other major players that were active with the Suns during this time included point guard Kevin Johnson, who is now the mayor of Sacramento, California, Danny Manny, Wayman Tisdale and A.C. Green. One of their most recent superstars Shaquille O’Neal was just traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Many of the Suns players enjoy playing for the Phoenix team due to the amount of support and interest expressed by the fans.
