Parks in Barcelona

As the second largest city in Spain, Barcelona is a shining example of Catalan culture, music, and food. It is, in fact, the capital of Catalonia. While many people come to Barcelona to experience the vibrancy of city life, they will also find a number of parks and reserves that bring some of the peacefulness of nature into the buzz of urban life.

Barcelona is home to 68 individual parks, including five botanical parks and six forest parks. These parks cover ten percent of the city, offering a wide range of recreation and relaxation for both locals and visitors.

The largest park in Barcelona can be found on the mountain for which the park is named: Montjuïc. The views from this mountain park are astounding, especially at sunset. Montjuïc Park includes beautiful gardens and the historic Castell de Montjuïc and the Magic Fountain. The Olympic Stadium was constructed for the 1992 Winter Games.

Ciutadella Park is another star attraction in Barcelona. Originally the site of a military citadel, this park is home to the city’s zoo, several museums, and the Parliament building. On weekends when the weather is favorable, the park buzzes with activity, including music, drum circles, and impromptu games.

Some of the other parks include Park Güell which was designed by Antoni Gaudí, Diagonal Mar Park, GuinardóPark, and the aptly named Labyrinth Park. The city is also home to a sports park and an amusement park.

Visitors will find a number of 5 star hotels in Barcelona as well as a variety of other lodgings available to suit the needs and budgets of any traveller. The city is also home to fabulous shopping and a wide range of eateries, many of which feature the incredible Catalan cuisine.
