Loch Ness is the second largest body of freshwater in Scotland. It is 23 miles long and close to the town of Inverness. At its deepest point it is 754 feet deep. It contains more water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined. The visibility of the water is very low due to the high content of peat entering it from the surrounding soil. Loch Ness is famous around the world as the home of the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie).
