Pain in the Neck Keeps Tiger Woods From Playing Golf

Tiger woods had a press conference earlier this week to announce that he could not play golf anymore for a while. He has had a really bad pain in the neck and is going to have to get it checked out. The pain has kept him from practice sometimes, as well as from being able to shoot straight. He plans to have it checked out as soon as he returns home, hopes to get an MRI, get it diagnosed, fixed, and get back to work. He feels very bad for all his fans who have been out to see him play, or who had plans to see him play, but he is going to have to take care of himself first.

Not sure how many people have been following the NBA games, but the Lakers pulled off an amazing win on Sunday. They had played only a couple of days before, had minimal rest in between games, but they still pulled off a great game hitting the semi finals with a fresh new stride, ready to keep playing hard.

I thought this was really nice. I know he has lied and cheated and really had no other choice but to just come out and apologize for it, but it is still nice when a famous person acknowledges their wrong doing and takes steps in a better direction.

It would seem strange that there would controversy over not necessarily tennis scores but how to keep them, yet there are two completely different ideas on how to keep tennis scores. The strain of thought about how to keep tennis scores comes to us from the medieval time period. Because superstitions ran high in those times, daily life was affected by their superstitions, right down to how tennis should be scored. Originally, those in the period persisted in the notion that the number sixty a good number to score the name by because it was a whole number, a round number, similar to how the number one hundred is now thought to be a whole number. We count out dollars according to it and so on.

It had 4 levels in the game, coming in fifteen point increments from fifteen to sixty. Today, most people know, even those not involved in tennis, that forty is now the whole number in tennis. Why it went from forty to forty-five is another whole slew of theories as well.

The second theory about why we score the way we do in tennis today is actually based on time, specifically how we make an hour and a minute based on increments of 60 for each unit of time. Those in the old tennis days actually used a clock to score their matches, moving the small hand of the clock to the different fifteen units it holds on its face: from twelve (which would be 0 point) to three (which would be fifteen), from three to six (which would be thirty), from six to nine (which would be forty-five), and from nine to twelve (which would be sixty points in total).

Such trivia might seem silly and strange to know for the average tennis fan or those that watch the sport simply to pass the time when there’s nothing else on the TV, but for those with a deep appreciation for the sport, it can only deepen it more. It demonstrates how far tennis has come and what different factors affected it throughout the years. They are interesting facts to to know, in particular because of the Australian Open Tennis that is coming up, one of the highlights of the tennis world.

They will get a chance to see the grand slam tournament where Roger Federer, a Swiss tennis professional player, will be competing at the United States tennis Association Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

During the initial part of 2009 he has had a bleak performance. He did not win any tournaments until he finally broke his streak at that loomed ill for his future US Open Tennis Scores at Madrid. He also got Wimbledon for his 6th time and the French Open.

The victory that shows him to be a favorite at the US Open occurred in a Grand Slam event where he whizzed pat Pete Sampras, who almost had 1st place had Federer not played his finest game yet. He won every Grand Slam event—a total of four—to make his mark in the tennis history books. He is the 6th person to every win each of the four events. Andre Agassi, Roland Garros, Don Budge, Roy Emerson, Fred Perry, and Rod Laver are the five others who have worked hard at their game for such an honor.

Additionally, Federer made more history through smashing the men’s majors records. Other accomplishments this year include almost tying with Sampras when he played at All England Club in the singles titles for men. He is a favorite to win and make more history this year at the US Open. Having won five of them already, it is easy to see why he would be a favorite.

Heineken with a Heart Event at the US Open

The US Open is more about just tennis. There is a considerable effort and amount of events that go way beyond the US Open tennis scores. They do a good amount of work with their green initiatives, to make sure that the tennis tournament does not put too much hurt on the environment. They have put recycling receptacles all over the tournament and have really made a commitment to making the tournament eco-friendly. They also hold the annual Taste of Tennis event. That event brings together tennis stars and star chefs for a night to benefit the Food Bank of New York City. The Heineken with a Heart event is a social event that has been created to benefit local charities. The event will cost fifty dollars to attend.

The emcees of the event are Eric Maibus of the ABC show “Ugly Betty” and Matthew Settle of the CW show “Gossip Girl”. The evening comes equipped with free appetizers, silent auctions and all the cold Heineken and Heineken Light you can drink of course!

The event will take place on the grounds of the US Open tennis tournament on Tuesday August 25, 2009 from seven to nine thirty at night. This event is a 21 and over event because of the beer sponsorship. Heineken has teamed up with USTA serves which is the charitable leg of the United States Tennis Association. So it is part of the festivities of the US Open tennis tournaments. They are holding the event as one that takes place before the open begins. You don’t have to attend the event to donate either. You can log on to the US Open website where you can buy tickets, or donate to the cause. No matter what you decide to do you will be making a difference. It’s a great way to have a slice of the US Open tennis experience.

The US Open will be interesting on the women’s side because it could be the chance for Safina to prove that she deserves that number one world ranking. We shall see what comes of the event. The women’s side may not be getting has much press as the men’s side because there are just not a lot of recognizable names at the top.

The Phoenix Suns is a veteran NBA basketball team based in Phoenix, Arizona. They play their home games in the US Airways Center, which was developed in the early 1990s. It is located in the revitalized downtown area known as Copper Square. This replaced their previous home at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, where it played its first 24 seasons. Sports tickets as well as tickets for other events are available at will call and by purchasing in advance online. The Suns are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the NBA.

The Suns are extremely popular in the Phoenix area, and have been the traditional favorite of the city, predating both the Arizona Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks, the local football and baseball franchises. The Suns are considered to be a strong team and have had solid success throughout their history, though they have never been able to win the NBA title. They have made it to the Western Conference Finals eight times. The Suns players are also popular in the community. They currently have four NBA superstars on the rooster and these are Steve Nash, Amar’e Stoudemire, Grant Hill and Jason Richards. The team was recently ranked in an ESPN article as the 5th best NBA franchise of all time.

The Suns, as well as do all major sports franchises, have gone through many different periods and transitions. One of the most well known was the era during which Charles Barkley played for the team. His first year in Phoenix he won the MVP title. Other major players that were active with the Suns during this time included point guard Kevin Johnson, who is now the mayor of Sacramento, California, Danny Manny, Wayman Tisdale and A.C. Green. One of their most recent superstars Shaquille O’Neal was just traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Many of the Suns players enjoy playing for the Phoenix team due to the amount of support and interest expressed by the fans.

The Seattle Mariners announced that they will celebrate Earth Day. I didn’t know what that exactly meant, so I went on-line to their home page found out what they have planned for the day. I was completely impressed. So, while I was on their official site, I purchased Sports Tickets, which I’ve never done, but just for the Earth Day event.

Before the game even starts the Major League Baseball is sponsoring the first carbon-neutral game. This includes implementing a recycling program for plastic, paper, if necessary, glass and food scraps. The Mariners have reportedly bought ‘green’ power credits which will off-set a sizable carbon footprint when a game is played. The money is supposed to fund a renewable energy facility. There will be wind farms popping up throughout the entire Northwest. Apparently, on ballgame produces over 230 tons of carbon dioxide! I would’ve never guest that, at all. The reason why is one must consider all the flight travel for both teams. All the ground transportation for fans, all the electricity, especially if a game is at night. The energy it takes to dispose and recycle the waste generated for one game.

At the pre-game Earth Day celebration, the CEO of the Mariners admits buying the carbon offsets isn’t enough, but that it is a beginning. Then the 2007 World Champion Boston Red Sox was recognized for their environmental installation of solar powered trash compactors at Fenway Park. Plus, the solar panels which will be used for all the hot water used at the park. It was really awe-inspiring to actually see the sports industry take on global issues such as taking measures to help with our environment. I would’ve never in a million years would’ve thought that any sports enthusiast even new we were in an environmental crisis. But, I was wrong and happily so.

I a full proponent that its crucial for spending quality time together as lovers, friends or with children. Whether it’s dining out or attending a sports event, or just a cuddle on the sofa while watching television. The activity is not the important thing, it’s the fact of being together and doing something that you would both enjoy.

In today’s world, people are too busy with work, social commitments and just plain old running around on errands. Finding time for those who matter most to you in your life needs to be a part of that schedule. Otherwise why did you even bother meeting that someone special, making friends or having children? Really, ask yourself that when you back out doing something with that special person in your life.

I recommend, even though it seems odd, to schedule in your appointment book or what ever you have to keep track of your busy schedule and plan things to do together. But, the an important part of the planning, besides being surprising and seemingly spontaneous, is to make some kind of physical contact and the most important in the scheduling part is to keep the appointment. Be it holding hands or a nice rub on the back and through in a passionate kiss if your with you lover. Yes, you have to be attentive. But, you be so happy you are. Like keeping it fresh and surprising, say you’ll buy Event Tickets to your lovers favorite concert, but bring your lover to stand in line with you, this way you can really spend quality time together because you have to talk to each other to pass the time and it’s a great way to hold hands while waiting or just stare into their eyes and actually get into some deep conversations. World Cup, 2010 South Africa!

In just one year, what has been the one of the goals of the government of South Africa for months, was landing the 2010 World Cup. Just outside of the city of Soweto in the African state of Johannesburg, the stadiums have been under construction and are almost ready. The luxury hotels South Africa supports have been taking reservations, and tickets for the events have already been sold. People around the world are concerned about various issues such as the crime rate and what some consider an infrastructure that is not adequate to support the amount of international travelers that will descend upon the city. Of the ten total world class stadiums, five are newly constructed.

The stadiums are located in Durban, Nelspruit, Polkwane and Cape Town. The older stadiums are currently going through upgrades. The cities that have been home to the World Cup in the past have all benefited from the tourism and the media, and the infrastructure of the country of South Africa stands to benefit in a similar way. And the country is making sure that this will be a memorable event as the architecture of the new stadiums is stunning and innovative. The only stadium with a glass ceiling, will be Green Point, and the designs are directly linked to the artistic heritage of the country. Some are concerned that once the Cup is over, the stadiums will situn -used, but the Government has already bid again, for the return of the Cup in 2015. And many of the soccer and football teams throughout the country will use the stadiums in the interim.

As far as the crime rate, it has come down by almost fifty percent in the last five years, however it is still much higher than many other cities around the world. The country is being compared to Wales and to England, countries known for extremely low rates of crime. The government has taken steps, not just in the hopes of hosting the World Cup, but in protecting the citizens of their country. They have appointed a new Chief of Police and have added more members to the police force in the past few years. Many other international events have been hosted in South Africa since the end of Apartheid, and they have occurred without incidence. In all, this a major accomplishment for a country so new to the concept of and the ideas of freedom, and to the living of life as many of the world live it, in celebration and in joy.
