Updating the Look of Your Fireplace

Monday, December 21st, 2009

One way to update the look of your traditional fireplace, is also a great way to increase the efficiency of that fireplace.  Fireplace inserts have become extremely popular for a number of reasons.  They provide a means of insulation, preventing the heat from escaping through the masonry and the walls surrounding the fireplace.  Some of the older designs of fireplaces, are polluting to the environment, and just not that efficient.  This metal shell, will prevent the heat from leaking through, and will also serve to more evenly and effectively disperse the heat throughout the house.  Decorative face-plates add to the design, creating new looks as well as more heat.  Fireplace inserts have been in use since the 1980’s.  At that time, they were not so efficient and had a bad reputation for being un-safe.  They were not connected well and allowed many carcinogens to be released up through the chimney.

Now though, as the designs have improved, the liners go all the way up the chimney, ensuring that the insert stay firmly in place.  The stainless steel means that corrosion will not be an issue, and the structure will remain viable and functioning for many, many years.  This improvement has also had another effect, which is that it drastically cuts down on the level of pollutants.  They increase the performance of the fireplace, creating the heat that a free standing wood burning stove would create.  The hearth mount is another way to increase the heat, and to give the fireplace a whole new design.  These are inserts that extend out from the fireplace, and provide a second hearth so to speak.  Most of the inserts are certified nowadays, by the EPA, so you can be certain that this will not only benefit the performance of the fireplace, and the looks of your home, but they are more effective in the means of protecting the environment as well.

Great Service and Great Hot Tubs

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Spending just a little bit of time in a hot tub can remind you of how good life can be.  There is a splendid sense of the worries of the day just falling away, and you might even get to that perfect point of relaxation where you don’t even remember what was causing anxiety before.  It’s a fantastic way to reduce stress, and the physical side effects are positive: better circulation, a happier heart, and even improvement in sleep cycles, inducing a deeper state of total relaxation during the night.  With so much to recommend a hot tub, it’s hard to see any reasons why not to have one.  Even climate shouldn’t be prohibitive, because they can be used throughout the year, and can even be a fun and exciting way to add a touch of zest to those long winter’s nights.  Polar bears do it, and human beings can, too!

There are are so many good reasons why to have a hot tub, but it can be difficult to decide exactly how and where.  Choose Hot Tubs Direct has an excellent record for quality customer service, where the sales team is trained and educated in all areas of the business, including being prepared to help ask questions at the installation stage.  They answer their calls and emails quickly and efficiently, and their years of dedication to working with people demonstrate a commitment to helping the community as well as distributing a very high quality product.

When you have decided on this company for all your hot tub needs, then the next challenge is the most fun, as well as the most exciting.  You get to choose which hot tub you want for your very own.  The user-friendly website can show you a stunning array of choices, and the staff is there to answer any questions you might have during the entire process – this is also true after you purchase, and after it’s arrived at your house.  They are there for the customer, and because they build their reputation on word of mouth, they count on your happiness and satisfaction.  It’s a wonderful sense of security to work with them, and exciting to be thinking about your own personal spa.

My neighbors getting a hot tub

Monday, September 28th, 2009

My neighbor is getting a hot tubs spas installed today. They just called up to let me know just in case the truck coming would be an inconvenience and giving me a chance to get my car moved to the street.

I had not talked to them in a long time, yeah they are right next door. Like everyone else I am so busy and focused on other things the neighborhood goes by with out my awareness unless something drastic happens. Any way he was telling me how he had injured his back at work and been in a lot of pain for a few months now. He said he had been seeing a physical therapist and that he had been doing ‘hydrotherapy’ at the physical therapists office and how the therapy had been very instrumental in releasing the pain in his injured back.

He said that hydrotherapy is being used in a lot of situations thee days. people who have had chronic headaches say they are finding complete relief from the head aches to a reduction in frequency and or intensity. Appear the relaxing nature of the hot water and the movement of the water messaging the body work together in creating this healing effect. The increased blood circulation and the reduced stress and tension allow the body to heal better and faster. The added benefit of a better nights sleep is icing on the cake. The evidence is mounting for the benefits of hydrotherapy. I may have to look into getting a hot tub of my own.

My neighbor was telling me there are a lot of different hot tubs and spas available today. From small to large to extra large. There are portable styles that do not require any special hook ups and permanently installed ones requiring plumbing and high voltage electricity. In any event it is something I will look into.

Mounting Evidence for the Benefits of Hydrotherapy

Friday, September 25th, 2009

The evidence is mounting regarding the benefits of soaking in a hot tub on a regular basis. This is called hydrotherapy soaking in hot water. The benefits being reported are relaxation, the massaging action of the jets combines with the hot water relieve sore and tense muscles relaxing them and causing them to ‘loosen’ up. The hot water also dilates blood vessels in the cardiovascular system thus improving blood flow, relieving head aches and helping the body in the process of eliminating toxins. More and more information from these studies is being released and more and more evidence is mounting that hydrotherapy is very beneficial in many ways.

A friend of mine that has had issues with sleep has said that since he began to regularly soak in his hot tubs he is getting to sleep much faster and sleeping much longer uninterrupted and more soundly than he has in a very very long time. I find this very amazing since I have known him for a decade or more and never heard him talk of getting a good nights sleep. Seems like a simple solution for him to what was a chronic problem.

Caring a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders, I think I would benefit greatly from use of a hot tub and hydrotherapy. Sometimes the tension keeps me from falling asleep because of the pain. I am sure soaking in a hot tub could be very beneficial for this situation and the release of that tension could only go to helping my entire back to feel more relaxed and relieved.

Considering the information being published and the testimonials of friends as to the benefits they have experienced by use of a hot tub. I think the time has come for me to make the investment in a hot tub for myself.

The Steps Towards Purchasing a Foreclosed Property

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Buying a foreclosed property is a simple process if one just follows a simple plan.  The first step is just to find a house or a property that one is interested in purchasing.  Many people check online listings, as there are many websites put up by real estate companies, some of them specializing in the process of purchasing foreclosures.  Vancouver, Toronto and many cities throughout the United States, have large populations of people that are choosing to leave their mortgages, and this means that for those who are still finding success in this economy there options are vast when it comes to purchasing homes at discounted prices.

On these websites one can research the homes in terms of which stage of the process the foreclosed home are currently in, as this may make a difference to the home one chooses.  The second step is just the further investigation and research of the property one chooses.  Comparing the prices and the condition.  This is also available online, in the section titled “advanced search”.  In this section will be the detailed information of each location, and one can look up how much is still owed on the property, and the status of the current owner’s loan.

The next step is to secure the financing, as this will give one an idea of just how much they will be able to afford.  When one has secured their financing, should they find a home they will be able to move quickly towards putting in their bid.  This will also indicate to the seller, that one is serious about the purchase and is ready to move forward in a timely manner.

Once one has found their desired home, and secured their loan, contacting an agent to represent them is the next important step.  Agents will help tremendously, especially for those who are first time home buyers, or for those who do not have experience working with the foreclosure process.  Experienced agents will make this entire process a much more comfortable experience for all parties involved.

Home renovation: When to not do it yourself

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

When it comes to remodeling your home it can be quite tempting to try and do everything on your own. Sometimes we all watch a little too much Home and Garden television and think we can be master carpenters. The truth is one most of those do it yourself shows those people have experts right next to them nudging them in the right direction. So what happens if you mess up? Where is your expert? Oh yeah, nowhere to be found. And then you end up spending more money trying to fix your mistake than you would have on the entire project. Truth is there are some things that are just better left to the professionals.

Flooring: Guess what; installing carpet is a job. So is installing hard wood floors and tiles. I feel like you have to be a freaking engineer to be able to get that stuff to look right.  Truth is there is some flooring that is easy to put together. But I never really like puzzles as a kid, so I think snap together flooring is just as hard.

Anything in the bathroom: You have to know what you are doing before you go in there. You can get electrocuted or worse, misalign tiles. If you don’t have a boyfriend running around that just happens to do plumbing on the side, it’s best to leave it to professionals.

Window treatments: It’s true, there are some crafty women out there that can make their own window valances and hang them to look like perfection. That’s nice, but that’s not me. I think it’s hard to put up blinds, and to put them up straight, that’s another story. Companies like Next Day Blinds can do that for you.  And they can do it straight too. And with all the varieties Next Day Blinds offers, you are bound to find something you’ll like.

How to navigate the internet

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

The internet is one of the most powerful tools that has ever been created. It has changed the way that people communicate and how they get their information. Most students these days cannot imagine having to step into a library to do their research paper.  But the problem with having all of that information at our fingertips is that there is a lot of information out there that is untrue. Did you know that anyone can update and write anything into a Wikipedia post? That is why on college campuses Wikipedia is not considered a scholarly source. It does however, provide people with some goo information, but it is not always reliable. Internet encyclopedias like Encarta are considered to be more reliable.

The same can be said for when you are looking up information on a company. While the internet has started to help root out some of the misinformation that can be posted about a company or a person, it is still a widespread problem. Anyone can write anything they want about you on a blog or review site, and that in turn can hurt your reputation. For example, Next Day Blinds is a United States company that provides window treatments. Yet, there is faulty information that comes up when you type Next Day Blinds reviews into a search engine.  Next Day Blinds reviews may come up, but that does not mean that the information is correct. It is possible that a competitor has done that to try and make people believe that Next Day Blinds reviews are many. When in fact Next Day Blinds has won a customer service award from Angie’s List.

So you really just need to beware of the research you find on the internet. Make sure you are going to reputable sites for information for a term paper, or a contractor.

A luxurious backyard

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Your backyard is like your home away from home. And you can really make it a little slice of heaven and turn it into your very own oasis. All you need is a little imagination and a renovation budget to make your backyard your favorite new vacation spot for rest and relaxation.

The first renovation you should think about doing is getting yourself a hot tub. There are so many different types of them that you can find something that you think would be a perfect fit for the space that you have allotted for it and in your budget. You can find a portable hot tub so that you don’t have to commit to a built in one. That way if you ever decide to sell your house you can take it with you.

The next thing that will turn your back yard into a great place to hang out is getting a great grill. There are lots of drop in grills that will help you make the most of your backyard experience.

The best reason to invest in your backyard is because if you have all the amenities to keep you and your family’s attention. You may not find the need to go on vacation if you can be on vacation every weekend in your very own backyard. With the current economic climate the staycation is becoming more popular as families do not have the same amount of money they had to spend on a family vacation. And family vacations can be quite expensive these days. Considering all the food and entertainment dollars you will end up spending.

So make your backyard your vacation place. And it is money well spent because it will add value to your home in the long run when you do decide to move on and sell it.

Live the resort lifestyle

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Do you live the resort lifestyle? You know swimming pool and hot tub in the back yard along with a gym membership and places all over your home to lounge? You don’t have to be a millionaire to have your little slice of the resort lifestyle. A lot of apartment and condo complexes these days come with amenities that were never included before. Most have sparkling pools, state of the art work out areas and rooms and even lush gardens and yard spaces.  But you don’t have to live in these luxurious complexes to get your little slice of the resort lifestyle. You can re create the feeling in your own home and easily with just a few easy purchases and attitude changes.

The first way you should make your home more like a resort is to keep it in tip top and clean shape. So, yeah cleaning your own home may not be living the resort lifestyle per se, but really a clean home will help you be less stressed out. The more organized you are the better. If you are not worrying about the fact that you need to clean your home, you will actually be able to legitimately relax when you are there.

The next thing you need to do to live the resort lifestyle on the weekend is make sure you have a stocked fridge. If you do your grocery shopping during the week, it will free up your weekends to actually enjoy being at home and not being a slave to doing errands.

Sleep in on the weekend! When you are on vacation you sleep in right? So sleep in at least one day out of your weekend. Also when you wake up take some time to just sit around and catch up on some TV watching. A little relaxing goes a long way.

The Joy of the Fragrant Garden Surrounding Hot Tubs

Monday, June 29th, 2009

One of the most potent factors on the memory is fragrance.  Various smells remind one of childhood, of holidays past, of loved ones and of very fine times.  This is a key element to the practice of aromatherapy, the total effect that a smell or aroma can have on the entire body.  Certain aromas serve to calm the nerve, to slow the breathing…as evidenced in the sales of lavender eye pillows for those in need of relaxing or in finding sleep.  Moods are created by scent, either relaxing as in the lavender or in stimulation as in cinnamon or ginger.  These scents can make one feel at home, at peace.  And in the modern world, it seems that many people are struggling with finding that balance again, that harmony and sense of safety and well being.  And while an important element to a backyard garden are the visual textures and variances, it has become common for gardeners to plant with only that in mind, the look.  They are forgetting the effects of scent, for just as the honeysuckle and the rose are beautiful, they are also very aromatic, however some of the hybrid plants which produce incredible visuals each year, no longer produce the scent.

Aromatherapy is a popular practice for those wishing to calm the nerves and to reduce stress levels, however there are many people out there who prefer the simple rose, rather than the essential oil of the rose.  They just simply prefer the real thing.  Today, hot tubs are becoming very affordable such as those found at choosehottubsdirect.com.  And the addition of a hot tub into a fragrant garden will ensure many days, and evening of relaxation.  The pleasing look of the garden, combined with the smells and the sounds of the breezes in the leaves, while soaking away the tension in a tub of bubbling water, is one of the most important ways that people can begin to reduce their own stress and anxiety.  Taking their lives into their own hands, so to speak, will result in better sleep, better production in the work place…which only further serves to reduce the stress.  Just as the overwhelming snowball effect of insomnia and low productivity serves up negative results, so will the snowball effect take place when one takes the steps towards more positive results and outlooks.

Best Barbecue Sauce

Friday, June 26th, 2009

With so many grill islands and grill island options to choose from, you’ll find the exact perfect match for your tastes.  For your decor preferences, for the many uses you already have in mind for your outdoor kitchen, and not least important of these, your taste in food, there is something to match your needs.  More than just a weekend activity, outdoor kitchens speak about a lifestyle, one where luxury, taste, and a social circle are decidedly necessary.

With all these ideals, one thing that certainly comes into play is a kind of boldness, one that is not afraid to experiment with taste.  Outdoor kitchens necessarily mean outdoor chefs, and cooking is a fine art that is constantly in motion.  For outdoor grills, it could be argued that there is no higher ideal than finding the perfect barbecue sauce.  Anyone who’s been within 100 feet of a barbecue knows that the sauce is a hot discussion topic.  There are parts of the world where it’s something that’s regularly debated, and often fiercely!  And although having your own outdoor kitchen doesn’t automatically enter you in to the competition among world class chefs, but a grill island does show that you’ve taken it seriously enough to enter the conversation.

You’ll want to start collecting all sorts of best barbecue sauce recipes from all over the place.  Consult cookbooks and friends, check with the chef at your favorite restaurant, and you’ll start growing an impressive catalog in no time.  Try your own variations, too, of course.  You’ll notice a few key ingredients to all of them: onion, garlic, tomato, vinegar.  There is also some sweetener, or combination of sweeteners.  Decide which spices you like the best.  And most importantly, and often they key point of contention, decide your level of heat.  There are some who prefer a little subtlety of kick, but for others, it’s a strong-man contest, but it’s most important to know the flavor of the peppers.  Get to know them all, and experiment.  Your friends and family will love the testing process.

A Hot Tub and a Garden in Limited Spaces

Friday, June 26th, 2009

In odd shaped backyard lots, or in yards that are small, creating a backyard garden sanctuary may seem impossible.  In Arizona, swimming pools are a popular amenity in many homes, however, again if working with limited space, a swimming pool is out of the question.  But with a Japanese garden design, and a hot tub one will be able to enjoy the water and the scenery of their beautiful yard, no matter how small.  Japanese gardens are based on some principles of design which lend themselves to small spaces, such as balance, enclosure and gardens that are reduced in scale.  In Japan, there is limited space, so the adaptation that has allowed many to enjoy gardens and nature, is to create the miniature versions.  This is most evident in the small Bonsai trees, now available throughout the United States, so common that they are found at the check out registers at any Target store nursery.  This is a “garden” perfect for those with no yards at all.  One can tend the small trees in the smallest of apartment dwellings.  Other objects that symbolize items that would be too large have also been placed in these tiny potted gardens.

In the back yard Japanese style garden, the focus is on the reproduction of nature, which is random, in contrast to the symmetry of Western gardens.  When working with limited space this opens up opportunities for arrangement of the plants one chooses to surround their hot tub.  Water in the Japanese garden symbolizes softness, and gravel symbolizes water.  So the hot tub surrounded by gravel, a great option in the desert landscape of the Southwest, will create that balance so intrinsic in the style of these gardens.  By taking into account the angles and the balance of view, one’s own personal items of symbolic meaning, the lesser number of plants and trees, one is able to create their own world, one that is not only pleasing and beautiful, but one that also serves to reduce the need for extensive watering and over-usage of water, making this the perfect option for those living in environments that are prone to drought conditions.

Saving Money At Home In This Economy

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Everyone is looking for ways to save money in these tough economic times. Sometimes, we grow so accustomed to the costs of living that we forget to take a look at those expenses and evaluate them critically. Making small changes to your home may be able to reduce your overall yearly expenses and give you more money each month to work with.

Water Usage – Take a close look at how you use water at home. Consider changing your landscape to include flowers and plants that do not require a lot of water, but that give you the look you want. When washing clothes or doing the dishes, run the machines when they are full. You’ll save more water and energy, which will help you save money if you reduce the number of overall cycles run per day.

Energy Efficiency – Check to be sure your living space is properly insulated and that all the seals around your doors and windows are intact. The energy used to heat or cool your home is wasted if the heat or air conditioning is leaking out of your home. If the seals on your windows are working properly, but a room is still difficult to heat or cool, take a look at the window covering you are using. Some styles of blinds and shades will actually add additional insulation and prevent heating or cooling loss. Also, don’t run the heating or cooling unit for the whole home if you don’t need to. Take advantage of ceiling fans or portable heating/cooling devices.

Lighting – If you have a habit of leaving the lights on around the house now is the time to break it. At night, use nightlights with a small wattage around the house to light the way around tight areas or stairs. Turn on the lights as you enter a room and turn them off as you exit. Doing so may significantly reduce your overall electric bill.
