My neighbors getting a hot tub

Monday, September 28th, 2009

My neighbor is getting a hot tubs spas installed today. They just called up to let me know just in case the truck coming would be an inconvenience and giving me a chance to get my car moved to the street.

I had not talked to them in a long time, yeah they are right next door. Like everyone else I am so busy and focused on other things the neighborhood goes by with out my awareness unless something drastic happens. Any way he was telling me how he had injured his back at work and been in a lot of pain for a few months now. He said he had been seeing a physical therapist and that he had been doing ‘hydrotherapy’ at the physical therapists office and how the therapy had been very instrumental in releasing the pain in his injured back.

He said that hydrotherapy is being used in a lot of situations thee days. people who have had chronic headaches say they are finding complete relief from the head aches to a reduction in frequency and or intensity. Appear the relaxing nature of the hot water and the movement of the water messaging the body work together in creating this healing effect. The increased blood circulation and the reduced stress and tension allow the body to heal better and faster. The added benefit of a better nights sleep is icing on the cake. The evidence is mounting for the benefits of hydrotherapy. I may have to look into getting a hot tub of my own.

My neighbor was telling me there are a lot of different hot tubs and spas available today. From small to large to extra large. There are portable styles that do not require any special hook ups and permanently installed ones requiring plumbing and high voltage electricity. In any event it is something I will look into.

Mounting Evidence for the Benefits of Hydrotherapy

Friday, September 25th, 2009

The evidence is mounting regarding the benefits of soaking in a hot tub on a regular basis. This is called hydrotherapy soaking in hot water. The benefits being reported are relaxation, the massaging action of the jets combines with the hot water relieve sore and tense muscles relaxing them and causing them to ‘loosen’ up. The hot water also dilates blood vessels in the cardiovascular system thus improving blood flow, relieving head aches and helping the body in the process of eliminating toxins. More and more information from these studies is being released and more and more evidence is mounting that hydrotherapy is very beneficial in many ways.

A friend of mine that has had issues with sleep has said that since he began to regularly soak in his hot tubs he is getting to sleep much faster and sleeping much longer uninterrupted and more soundly than he has in a very very long time. I find this very amazing since I have known him for a decade or more and never heard him talk of getting a good nights sleep. Seems like a simple solution for him to what was a chronic problem.

Caring a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders, I think I would benefit greatly from use of a hot tub and hydrotherapy. Sometimes the tension keeps me from falling asleep because of the pain. I am sure soaking in a hot tub could be very beneficial for this situation and the release of that tension could only go to helping my entire back to feel more relaxed and relieved.

Considering the information being published and the testimonials of friends as to the benefits they have experienced by use of a hot tub. I think the time has come for me to make the investment in a hot tub for myself.

Addiction to PCP

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Developed before LSD,  PCP, which stands for the complex and dangerous chemical phenylcyclohexylpiperidine, was originally used in the form of a surgical anesthetic.  Because it provided a feeling of being out of one’s body, it became associated with other dissociative anesthetics.   The detachment this drug provides its uses is only one of many reasons it lands people in residential drug treatment

In studies performed on both animals and humans, it was shown to usually have such negative side affects as delirious states of being and extreme rage in humans.  But for animals it proved to be a successful anesthetic.

The pill form came out in the sixties where it immediately began to be abused illicitly.  There was a decline in use as its users started to become unsatisfied with how long it took the drug to work and how unstable it was.  The rage fits often associated with the drug were and still are unpredictable.  It went out of style just as fast as it had came into style.

Numerous names are also attributed to the drug, including superweed, rocket fuel, ozone, and others when it is in a powdered version of itself.  Usually the powder is mixed with other drugs or substances that can be smoked, tobacco and marijuana chief among them.  Through this technique, users can get an extremely quick hit.  While in its powered form, it is also snorted like cocaine.  Pills are still used today as well.

Snorting the drug, or smoking it, provide virtually the same effects.  Its popularity as a drug originates from the way in which it works with the chemistry of the brain.  The drug disrupts the place in the brain where the receptors play host for glutamate, a neurotransmitter.  This neurotransmitter is responsible for how people perceive pain, emotion, and how their cogitative abilities work.  Another neurotransmitter it affects is called dopamine.  It is famous for its association in providing, with the help of other drugs, the high so many abusers chase and the need for drug rehab.

Part of what centers for treatment for drug addiction must deal with in PCP abusers, especially those with a long history of using the drug, is memory problems and severe depression.  Such symptoms can last as long as a year or even more, depending upon the patient and the program.

Muscle Testing

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Based in the concept of an internal energy system which has its basis in Chinese medicine, muscle testing i an noninvasive way of determining the ailments of patients. This methodology can be useful to determine allergies, allergic reaction, disease processes and more. The process is the bodies response when applying slight pressure to a large muscle. The information obtained can be useful in determining imbalances, nutritional deficiencies and food sensitivities. It can also be used to determine course of treatments, changes in diet and drug intake. Generally you hold the substance in question and muscle testing is conducted to determine if it would be of benefit or detriment to the subject being tested. Questions can be asked about the amount, dosage or strength necessary for the condition being treated. When testing a rigid hold to the muscle being tested is considered a yes or positive response. When testing and the muscle is weak not holding firm the results of the test are considered no or negative. Legs and arms are the most common muscles to use for testing. If the subject is suffering from blocked energy there may not be a way to get a good muscle test with any clear yes or no. In cases like these some energy work like brain balancing while the subject focuses on breathing deeply worth the belly bringing themselves into a deep state of relaxation. Usually this will work on getting a subject unblocked and ready to be tested with successful results. The scientific term for muscle testing is applied kinesiology. This work was first done by Dr Goodheart about 70 years ago. This procedure is used extensively in holistic practices and chiropractic medicine. I was first introduced to these ideas at a chiropractic convention held at Barcelona Spain luxury hotels some years ago while traveling in Europe. I am interested but don’t know if I believe it works.

What is detox?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Detox is not just a hot new celebrity diet. It’s not just where Beyonce Knowles drinks nothing but cayenne pepper juice for two weeks. No, detox is an important part of going to an addiction treatment center and there are special centers where it can be done as well.

What drug detoxification does is that it helps drug addicts who are addicted to such drugs as heroin and meth a safe way to go off of the drug. Because coming down from the effects of those harsh drugs can be quite painful, these centers are used to help ease that pain. The entire goal of drug detox is to rid the body of the toxins that the drugs have introduced into your system. This type of drug detox is usually done for those who are suffering from opiate addiction. Such as valium or Percocet, are examples of prescription drugs that can require detox to overcome.

Detox can be done for nearly any type of drug addiction even marijuana and alcohol too. Essentially, you have to teach your body how to run not on the drugs you have been ingesting and that is the important part of drug detox.  The patient goes through what is called withdrawal of the substance in their body. However not every drug rehab facility offers this type of service along with their other drug rehab services such as dual diagnosis.

Drug addiction is a serious thing and detox is something a patient should no try to do on their own. Despite the fact that there are many places online where you can purchase detox kits, it is advisable not to do on your own in your home. It can be very dangerous. Drug addiction is a long road to recovery. If you have decided its time to take the leap into sobriety make sure you do it the right way, with a proper detox.

The Joy of the Fragrant Garden Surrounding Hot Tubs

Monday, June 29th, 2009

One of the most potent factors on the memory is fragrance.  Various smells remind one of childhood, of holidays past, of loved ones and of very fine times.  This is a key element to the practice of aromatherapy, the total effect that a smell or aroma can have on the entire body.  Certain aromas serve to calm the nerve, to slow the breathing…as evidenced in the sales of lavender eye pillows for those in need of relaxing or in finding sleep.  Moods are created by scent, either relaxing as in the lavender or in stimulation as in cinnamon or ginger.  These scents can make one feel at home, at peace.  And in the modern world, it seems that many people are struggling with finding that balance again, that harmony and sense of safety and well being.  And while an important element to a backyard garden are the visual textures and variances, it has become common for gardeners to plant with only that in mind, the look.  They are forgetting the effects of scent, for just as the honeysuckle and the rose are beautiful, they are also very aromatic, however some of the hybrid plants which produce incredible visuals each year, no longer produce the scent.

Aromatherapy is a popular practice for those wishing to calm the nerves and to reduce stress levels, however there are many people out there who prefer the simple rose, rather than the essential oil of the rose.  They just simply prefer the real thing.  Today, hot tubs are becoming very affordable such as those found at choosehottubsdirect.com.  And the addition of a hot tub into a fragrant garden will ensure many days, and evening of relaxation.  The pleasing look of the garden, combined with the smells and the sounds of the breezes in the leaves, while soaking away the tension in a tub of bubbling water, is one of the most important ways that people can begin to reduce their own stress and anxiety.  Taking their lives into their own hands, so to speak, will result in better sleep, better production in the work place…which only further serves to reduce the stress.  Just as the overwhelming snowball effect of insomnia and low productivity serves up negative results, so will the snowball effect take place when one takes the steps towards more positive results and outlooks.

Grilling to Shred and Rip

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Summer time is upon us and the time is to chill out in the sun, start firing up the built in grills or relax at the beaches. Summer time also means it’s time to get your body into shape. That’s if you want to be noticed as you chill out in the sun, flipping burgers at the grill or walking along the beach. And do you want people will notice all the hard work you put into building your body and ask how you got ripped to shreds? Well, hang on to your hat’s because it’s rip time.

If you ask any body trainer, they will tell you using heavy weights will build up bulk and that using lighter weights will define and bring out that sought after ripped look in the muscles. But, I found a way on how to get ripped without wasting precious time and energy on useless exercises. I found out the truth about weight versus lightweight ways of building muscle mass, a way of getting cut and ripped. What everyone knows about getting shredded is complete wrong. There is no scientific basis to support this type of weight training at all.

The fact is, it’s not possible to spot reduce our body. It’s not possible to target any one specific area of the body for fat loss. Such as performing squats with light weights will not burn fat off your legs and make them look hard and cut. Every time you workout and lift a dumbbell, a barbell or cable it, think about stimulating as much muscle fiber to grow as humanly possible without steroids. The mindset needs to be changed and you need to forget about all of that illogical advice claiming to get a certain area of the body hard and ripped. So, if you want to know what it’s like to get ripped to shreds, one solution is to train as hard as you can and start combining exercises to your workout to target your entire body and not just specific parts of your body.

Good Fears and Bad Fears

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I decided to stop watching the news on television, they seems to only have leading report stories that have the qualities of ‘fear-mongering.’ And the reason for this is, apparently, we like it. Every now and then they have a ‘feel-good’ story, but it’s usually at the end of the newscast. Fear is an emotion that has two sides. There is Good fear and Bad fear. What the news usually reports and preys on is our irrational destructive fears. Like when my friend called me while she was staying at a Palace Hotel India,  right after she arrived and unpacked, she turned on television to watch the India news and saw that there were terrorist blowing up and killing people around Mumbai,  and how she won’t dare leave her room. It was her first time in India and she wouldn’t leave her room.

Normally, a good fear comes from an actual physical threat. There is the element of physical fear, like for our personal safety and the safety of our family and friends. A healthy fear. A type of fear as old as the world and is instinctual. We are born with it. Research shows that a babies only instinctual fear is that of falling. As we grow older the fear develops into the more familiar ‘fight or flight‘  reaction fear that our mind will send chemicals into our body to give us energy to think and act quickly to a perceived threat.

As humans, we have evolved to a different type of fear that has become common since we adopted a less strenuous, less dangerous lifestyle. So, we are pre-occupied with the distractions of the news media and the entertainment industry. I truly believe that the new media are in the business of franchising fear, they want to paralyzes us with fear. Wants to make us want to give up and quit. To not even try. They make the world seem like a truly fearful place to be. The only place we have to live, they want us to fear it. So, I stopped watching the news, stopped reading the paper. And found that my stress levels have reduced immensely and my views of the world I live in is a less scary place then I thought.

Synchronicity

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Thinking about a friend you haven’t seen for a while and they call. Reading about something you didn’t know and then later that night at dinner, you over hear the couple in the booth next to you talk about the exact same thing you just read about. Wearing a t-shirt with a picture of one of your friends on the front and as you leave a New York Airport Hotel the person coming in does a double-take and is in shock that the person on your shirt is their older brother. Synchronicity can take on any number of forms. The meaningful things in life are not left to chance. The most insignificant of events will often lead to a major change in life’s pathway and plans.

Some synchronicities are obvious and immediate. For a brief moment we are granted a glimpse of the miraculous. Others may not become apparent until decades later, or never be obvious in this lifetime. In fact, the reason for synchronicities are not necessarily even for our benefit, but for others perhaps not yet born. It’s all interconnected, inter-related and changing a detail can have vast and far reaching implications.

A relatively new science called Chaos Theory says that out of chaos and seemingly total randomness, comes order. Synchronicity happen all the time, but we are not always aware of their existence. It should be obvious through the very nature of synchronicity itself that there are physical components, as well as psychological components, involved in its creation.  This brings up the question of the nature of the relationship between the two. Between the creativity of the human mind and the hypothesized pre-existence of order. Synchronicity is around us at all times all one needs to do to notice these little notes from the Universe is become aware of ones surroundings. Aware of every bit of information, thought and feeling. A whole new world will open up and reveal itself to you.

What is Client-Centered Therapy and is it effective in recovery from drug or alcohol abuse?

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Carl Rogers was an influential American psychologist and was one of the founders of the Humanistic approach to psychology. In 1951 he published a book called Client-Centered Therapy (Rogers, Carl (1951). Client-centered therapy: Its current practice… London: Constable. ISBN 1-84119-840-4) and it revolves around the uses of counseling and therapy that can be effective in various setting including recovery from drug addiction treatment.

He proposed there are three necessary and sufficient conditions for personal change. These are unconditional positive regard, accurate empathy, and genuineness. He regarded negativity to be detrimental to helping a person change. Rogers believed the presence of these three items in the therapeutic relationship could help an individual overcome any troublesome issue, including alcohol or drug abuse.

To this end, a 1957 study (Ends, E.J., & Page, C.W. (1957). Quarterly Journal of Studies on Alcohol, 18, 263-277) compared the relative effectiveness of three different psychotherapies in treating alcoholics who had been committed to a state hospital for sixty days: a therapy based on two-factor learning theory, client-centered therapy and psychoanalytic therapy. Surprisingly, client-centered therapy proved most effective.

Many drug rehab and alcohol rehab centers now focus on the principals developed by Carl Rogers, most commonly the positive approach to personal change.

Medical Tourism and Mexico

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Now that people are realizing that they can combine an excellently performed surgical procedure with a post operative vacation, many are turning to Mexico as the country of choice. With its beautiful beaches, its colorful towns, its friendly people, its wonderful shopping opportunities, its delicious food, along with its close proximity to the United States border, would-be patients are flocking to have their treatments done here.

Because Mexican hospitals are of top notch quality, boasting state-of-the-art equipment and techniques, you can rest assured that you are getting the same type of care as you would in your home country. Surgeons are highly trained, with most obtaining their post graduate degrees from hospitals in the States or Canada. English is spoken and communication is always a priority, with personalized attention give, often more-so than found in the U.S. And then there is the price. Surgery in Mexico can cost up to 60% less than in North American hospitals. So if you are looking for affordable knee surgery, cheap hip surgery, or any other type of procedure, medical tourism in Mexico is an excellent choice. With money saved, you can take a beautiful vacation afterward, with money still in your pocket once you arrive home. (http://medicaltourismguide.org/ )

Mexico: A Great Alternative for Surgery

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Never before has Mexico become such a haven for would-be patients looking for excellent medical care. With costs up to 60% lower than in the United States, many people are turning to the state-of-the-art care that a Mexican hospital provides, along with the top notch surgeons, most of whom have done their post graduate work in the United States.

Having, for example, your lap band surgery abroad means that you will receive personal care, be allowed a loved one to stay in your room in most cases, and be operated on by the best physicians trained in this type of procedure.

Knee surgery abroad
is another popular procedure, with patients marveling at the considerate care by staff members as well as the cutting-edge techniques employed. An added perk to traveling to Mexico for a procedure is that you can then take a vacation after you have been released from the hospital.

Many hospitals are located in beautiful spots such as beach towns and the like where you can spend a few days on the sand before you return home. With the money you save on your surgery, what a great idea to take some time to enjoy the stunning environs.

To find the best surgeon and hospital for you, look under Medical Tourism agencies online or through your travel agent.

How to Find High Quality, Cheap Hip Surgery

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

With medical tourism on the rise due to daunting health care costs, people are turning to such countries as Mexico and India, among others, for responsible surgical procedures. As one of the most common operations, hip surgery has become a viable alternative to putting up with chronic pain due to injury or arthritis.

As the hip joint undergoes wear and tear, the normally smooth ball and socket joint becomes compromised. The cartilage that covers the area begins to fray, causing the bones to rub against each other. Whether this is due to the affects of aging, sports injuries, or arthritis, the result is painful. One of the most common hip surgery practices is hip resurfacing, where the damaged area is replaced with metal and/or durable plastic implants that allow the patient to feel literally “brand new!”

Cheap hip surgery can be found in several countries outside the United States, with India and Mexico leading as excellent contestants. Several Indian hospitals boasts relationships with Harvard Medical and Johns Hopkins, and employ highly trained surgeons that rival those in the United States. Mexico hospitals are another alternative, providing world class treatment at a fraction of the cost found in the United States. Here patients can find many private clinics with multi-lingual staff members, world-class diagnostics, and the highest quality surgical procedures.

Not Enough Drug Rehab Programs For Teens

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Last month, the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board had good news to announce – the overall teen drug abuse rate in the United States has dropped by 24 percent since 2001. The report also said that in all young adults (defined as between the ages of 18 and 25) the abuse rate fell in all drug categories with the exception of pain relievers.

It’s unfortunate that news of this improvement had to be tempered with the distressing information that teenagers in America do not have enough drug treatment options to serve their needs. A Forbes.com article today reported on the national deficiency in the number of treatment centers that specifically treat adolescents. The article cites a recent study that claims “Only about 10 percent of the 1.4 million American teens with substance abuse problems receive treatment.” It’s humbling to realize that even though drug abuse among teens is going down in numbers, there are still over a million American teenagers out there who are suffering from substance abuse.

The reason why most teens don’t get the help they need is that there are few treatment centers that offer services to teens, and of those facilities only a percentage accepts people with a dual diagnosis or co-disorders. The article mentioned that compared to the number of treatment centers for adults, teens only have about 1/3 of the services that adults have. Without enough centers to service young adults, the problem may begin to grow again.

Quality of service is a major concern, as only 30 percent of over 150 centers that were evaluated managed to score as establishments of “high-quality”. The majority scored as only mediocre facilities. According to the research in the report that appeared in the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment, high-quality drug rehab centers tend to be those with longer term, residential programs. The reason given is that residential treatment often offers a wider variety of services that meet youthful needs.

Long Term Drug Addiction Recovery Program Best Option

Friday, May 9th, 2008

I have recently learned about how devastating methamphetamine is. I knew it was bad before, but it was not until I saw a documentary called "Crystal Darkness" that I finally understood the degree it affects a user.

Drug abuse treatment in a drug rehab can offer the addict a chance at a sober life. Relapse does occur but with long term drug addiction recovery program, the user will most likely end up in jail or dead.

I read that the chemical that is effected by meth the most is dopamine. When a person eats or does something pleasurable like that, the dopamine in them jumps from 100 units to 200. When a person does cocaine, it jumps to 350 units. And when a person does meth, it jumps to 1250 units. And often the wiring of their brains is changed and they stop producing a normal amount of this chemical which leads to a severe depression after the high.

Non-Medical Prescription Drug Use Leads to Drug Abuse Treatment

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

A new study has found that 20% of college students have abused prescription. The prescription drugs that are being abused include Xanax, sleeping pills, and medicine for ADHA. Of these college students, those that use prescription drugs non-medically are 80 times more likely to develop an addiction problem.

For those that become addicted, help is available at a drug abuse treatment center. Drug addiction treatment that is successful helps meet all of the needs of the addict. Many times an addict has what is called a dual-diagnosis. This means that in addition to the addiction that must be treated, the addict also has a previously undiagnosed mental health issue that will also need treatment.

A successful chemical dependency treatment facility will last for several months. This is to ensure that the substance leaves the body, any psychological needs are met and spiritual needs are met.
