What Do People Say About TransGlobe Property Management?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Advice to consumers has always been to check out the company you are thinking of dealing with, before you deal with them, before you purchase their products and before you enlist their services. Now days, that is becoming much easier to do as you can basically find out anything you need to know online. All taken with a grain of salt of course, but it is easy now to compare and contrast the reputation of a company and what it is that they have to offer, by reading through the customer testimonials and reviews that you can find online.

This is important in all industries, and is very important when considering properties to rent, be they for residential purposes or for business purposes. The people who go into the career of property management, must not only take care of the property owners, but they must also look after those who rent those properties. When considering where to rent in Canada, many people have found out quite a bit of information about TransGlobe Property Management by checking out their reputation online.

These are some of the paraphrased testimonials…the maintenance crew should be the standard for which all other companies are compared. When other property management companies in Canada realize what they are competing with, when it comes to TransGlobe…they run in the other direction. Quick and friendly service. TransGlobe hired a security guard, it made us feel safe. The TransGlobe team is awesome!

This is the kind of advertising that cannot be bought and paid for. It is the truth of the public, not well designed commercials written by people who went to art and film school but the simple words of the customer. This is what people must look for when doing business, the real comments made by people who have come before. The people who have spent time with a company, and who have their own experiences to share. It is the kind of service, care and reputation that just can’t be topped.

Online Reputation Management for Everyone

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Regardless of your station in life, your reputation is one of your most important assets. Whether you are a high-ranking business man or a blue-collar working man, a crafty politician or a stay-at-home mom you have worked hard to establish and maintain your reputation. You have made a name for yourself. However, with the Internet becoming increasingly available and more people getting online with blogs and social networking , it only takes a few moments and couple clicks for a former friend or disgruntled employee to tarnish that hard earned reputation with a few careless words. Fortunately for you it doesn’t have to come to that. There is something you can do-online reputation management.
Managing your Online Reputation sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn’t. By maintaining the image that you desire on major social networking sites, such as Facebook or Twitter, you as an individual can do a lot toward protecting the image you’ve created. It is important that you are very careful what and how much information you put on these sites, since potential employers will often check them before making a job offer. For those in a more public spot light, companies such as Elixir Interactive can step in. They will work with you to develop a plan for pushing the negative sites down and replacing them with more positive ones; especially in search engines such as Google.
In our fast paced technological world, managing your online reputation is as important as locking up your house up at night. Protect the image that you have worked so hard to build. By taking those first steps early on you can avoid the potential nightmare of a tarnished reputation that can affect your job, goals, and identity.

Back to Basics for the First Time

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

There are some who might feel that it’s always a dangerous proposition to look down, or to look back.  If we’re climbing a mountain, or running a race, this might very well be true, and probably can help in saving a lot of trouble later on down the road.  However, we don’t have to be at the edge of the precipice or in the middle of the storm all the time, and this is very fortunate.  Haste makes waste, there’s no doubt about that, and in order for things to work, we have to be able to take time and reflect every now and then.  Thinking about where we are, and where we’re going, is necessary in a personal life, in a relationship, and also in a business.

Being able to reflect on all the lives and the wisdom that came before us can be nothing less than overwhelming.  To consider all the lives and civilizations that have lead us to this moment before us is daunting and humbling.  But it’s also enormously inspiring.  In leadership training, it’s necessary to be able to consider where we are in relation to all that’s gone before.  We usually discover that we’re at a particularly splendid moment, one filled with opportunity.  We also start to see that some of the best ideas of the leaders before us are still extremely useful, and have very practical applications to whatever tasks we might have at hand.

This isn’t to suggest that we haven’t changed, or haven’t gotten smarter over the years.  Those things might be debatable, really, but this points out that the wisdom we’re looking for is already there.  In business training, we can begin to mine the best wisdom from the best minds, and learn how to work with it.  It’s not that we haven’t learned, but that we simply need to learn how to apply it.  It’s a marvelous thing, and it’s also a likely thing, to see how this can yield some very splendid results.

When we fast and take the time to process our feelings, life energy flows through us and we feel fully alive.”

The TransGlobe Community in Vancouver

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

The rental properties that are in the care of TransGlobe Property Management in Vancouver are located conveniently close to many of the parks, shopping centers and public transportation.  This fosters an even stronger sense of community as the climate of the city is such that all year round people are out and about taking part in any one of the many outdoor festivities and activities.  Many people head out to the Stanley Park Seawall.

This is a great place to go for a run, or a walk, skating or cycling.  This is just one section of the Greenway stretch that runs along the shore for just over twelve miles.  Traversing through this stretch will take you past the Spanish Banks, False Creek and on through to Coal Harbour.  Many of the natural wildlife habitats, forests and marshes sit along these shores, and so no matter if you’re jogging or biking the stretch is a nice way to catch glimpses of the life of the natural world of Vancouver.  This is the area too, where many of the festivals and summer celebrations are held, creating a vibrant and wonderful place to live and work.

TransGlobe Property Management carries over this sense of community into the rental units in which they manage, often holding their own festivals within their buildings and with their tenants, creating again, a great place to live and to work.  The properties reflect the outdoors, with landscaping that is well tended and lush, and the managers take care to get to know each of the tenants personally.  There are many different communities and neighborhoods to choose from in Canada, and TransGlobe makes all feel at home, giving all of their tenants a sense of belonging, and pride.  This is important in the busy world we live in today, to have a great place in which one can call home.

Internet and In Person Customer Service

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Companies and Business Professionals such as Steven Barbarich are well aware that they would not remain in business long if they did not have the strong focus on respect and concern for customer satisfaction and approval that they insist on maintaining. This is partly due to the continually expanding nature of most business markets and when in house live companies are competing with Internet based businesses that provide the same product, survival can become tricky.

Online businesses are often able to greatly reduce overhead costs and frequently operate of homes and small offices. Meanwhile they have a tremendous supply of products stored in large warehouses that the consumer never enters. This is enormously cost saving when compared to the in house business that must pay for staff persons to be in the store at all open hours and they must keep a large portion of their product in the store. Electricity costs also sore when a store is active versus when items are stored in a warehouse. They can also take some of their overhead cost savings and apply that to larger stocks of products in huge warehouses. This then allows them to offer lower prices and potentially drive other companies out of business. And these are just a few of the cost savings elements that benefit online only businesses.

And while there are other benefits that relate to in house businesses, the ones mentioned here that work for the online businesses can be devastating if they are not countered by the live in house company. This is where the importance of providing excellent customer service can be essential. Personalized attention, respect and genuine concern for customer satisfaction cannot be replaced by an email. And many consumers have a natural preference for shopping in stores, which businesses should capitalize on. Meanwhile for the online company, it is essential to maintain their own orientation toward excellent customer service or they may very well lose any overhead cost benefits they received by operating online.

The Importance of Customer Service

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Good customer service is a key quality in any successful business. Regardless of the type of business, customer service is essential to enhancing our experience and creating a desire in us to want to come back. When we go to the doctor we expect the assistants, nurses, and doctors to work with us and see to our needs with a helpful and positive attitude. We wouldn’t even consider going back if our needs and concerns were ignored or brushed aside. The same applies to retail and specialty stores. We have all at one time or another experienced wandering blindly through a store to find just one item while there is not a single associate available to help. If a store wants to maintain business they will provide a knowledgeable, helpful sales staff to assist in locating product and answering questions.

One such business that has consistently excelled at customer service is Next Day Blinds. As a result, customers are able to find what they need quickly and easily at any of their many locations such as Next Day Blinds Timonium. Whether you call or order your new blinds from home, they send a professional out to measure each of the windows you will be covering in order to guarantee that your new Next Day Blinds will be a perfect fit. They will also install them for you to make sure that they are set up correctly. Next Day Blinds also stands behind their products by offering a lifetime warranty. As further evidence of their outstanding service, they have won both the Angie’s List Super Service Award for 2008 and the Better Business Torch Award in 2009.

In today’s struggling economy businesses need to step it up a notch and demonstrate to us why they deserve our business. Don’t settle for mediocre service when there are companies out there like Next Day Blinds that offer tremendous service as well as excellent product.

Customer Service Important For Any Business

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Customer Service is not a complicated matter, though sometimes it may seem that way to a consumer who is frustrated by the service or the lack of service that they have received. Steve Barbarich has been on both sides of the issue and as a businessman has a strong focus and offering the best service possible. This can mean different things to different people, and can also be viewed as different depending on the company’s field and structure.

Depending on the type of business a company is involved in, customer service is often seen in various perspectives and also as at different levels of priority. This can be based on whether the company offers direct services and then again if they are vital services or more optional and luxury. Generally, it is expected that the more luxury oriented a service is, the more important excellent customer service becomes. This however, should not and is not the actual case. In addition, some companies may have no direct contact with consumers and some are Internet based. All of these variations can be confusing to business owners as to how to best serve their client or consumer.
It is extremely important to realize that this does not have to be the case. And in reality, it should not be the case.

For any business respect for the customer and should be an essential component of its philosophy. When service providers, sales persons and resource assistances respect their consumer that alone has a great effect on the perspective they will have in approaching their work. Secondly it is important to be aware of, and also for the customer to be, and extremely informed on what exactly it is that you are offering. And most importantly, it is essential that the customer receive what it is they believe they are paying for. And it is also important to ensure that the customer is satisfied with the service or product they received. To realize that the customer’s satisfaction with a product or service is as important as receiving it is a frequently overlooked aspect of customer service. What this means is that post purchase support should be available and ready for the consumer’s needs and questions.

Customer Service at a Starbucks

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

The other night I was sitting in Starbucks waiting for a friend. A “customer service moment” happened, and not a good one. There was an older gentleman sitting at a table ready a New York Times paper with a magnifying glass. At the same time, two of the employees were doing what appeared to be standard practice at 6pm, which was cleaning the cafe. One woman was carrying out the kitchen mats which were all stacked up. I have carried these mats and they are heavy and a pain to deal with when you are tired. The other woman was mopping the floor.

A bit of time passed and the older man folded up the paper, and asked–yelled–the woman stacking the mats, if she would call him a cab. She replied a disgruntled ‘yes’, and went about her business. The reason the older man yelled the question was, as he explained later, he was hard of hearing. He didn’t hear the disgruntled ‘yes’. So when the woman came back, he asked her again. And this annoyed her. She replied in a very condescending manner, that yes she would call a cab for him, as soon as she was finished with what she was doing. I thought about this for a moment.

I mean, just by looking at the gentleman you could see that he had had a long life, a lot of experience. He could not hear well, could not see well, and as he moved from his table to a chair next to me so he could better look out for the cab, he could not walk well either. The one woman had been rude, and the other woman mopping the floor moved to the far end of the cafe, seemingly to avoid becoming involved in the situation. The man sat down, and explained to me–he wasn’t shy–that he was just worried about getting stranded there. I have worked in the service industry, just as does Steve Barbarich, and I know what good customer service is. But more so than that, I just know what it is to see another human being.

What these women saw at first glance a cranky, old man who was yelling at them. And they didn’t take the time to see anything more. He was a nice man, only yelling because he couldn’t hear himself talk. So I got out my cell phone and called AAA Cab Company. My friend showed up just then, so I told the employees not to worry about the phone call for the cab, that it was already made and they could continue cleaning. I said goodbye to man, and he said thank you. I won’t ever forget his face.

The Positive Effects of Good Customer Service

Monday, September 28th, 2009

The backbone of every business is the level of customer service they offer to everyone that walks through their doors. Sales and promotions may bring new clients and customers in once, but the key to a viable and profitable business is to keep those new customers coming back. Long term success relies on the repeat business and on the recommendations of those repeat customers.

For when a customer leaves your business happy, they will spread the word about your services or your product, and the same is true if they leave unsatisfied. Good sales teams may be able to sell anything once, but it will be the way in which you provide your customer with the information, with the service that will be the determining factor as to whether or not they will return to you for something else in the future. Steve Barbarich prides himself with surrounding his company with a team of well trained individuals who really know what good customer service is all about.

This involves forming relationships with those you are doing business with, one that each customer will want to pursue in the future. How does this happen? Well, do what you say you will do, and always be there for them. Always answering the phone is a must, or if that is not possible all of the time, which it is not, then get an answering service and return calls promptly.

Never make promises that you can not keep and always make your deadlines. And it sounds simple, but just listen to the customers. Not only is it just honest behavior, this will bring your customers back as well. It is frustrating to know that the person you are voicing your opinions to, is not listening. This will send customers away immediately. This applies to dealing with any concerns and complaints as well. No one enjoys dealing with complaints, it can be uncomfortable. But solving a problem that someone has, will have them leaving happy and likely to return.

Changing Spending Habits Amidst the Poor Economy

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

In these times of economic strife, people getting laid off from their jobs, the risk is great of foreclosures.  Brooklyn,  New York residents have been concerned as well as people across the United States, from Oklahoma to Louisiana, to Texas and California.  These tough times call for a shift in the way people live their lives, from the cutting out of fancy dinners in fine restaurants to the shift in the way that people are shopping for house hold goods, and personal items.  All across the country, the flea market has gained in popularity.

The Rose Bowl Flea Market inPasadena a huge outdoor market that occurs each month, and more that twenty five hundred sellers and vendors line the market with their booths.  On sale is everything from antiques, to new merchandise to garage sale items.  This is a market that has been opening its gates in the mornings at 5 am, for the last forty years.  There are many celebrity shoppers that are regularly seen, such as Michelle Pfeiffer and Cher.

On the other side of the country, in Woodstock, New York is the Mower’s Saturday Market.  This happens each month on the second Saturday.  This is set in the meadow, on a street lined with trees, and as in the Pasadena Market, there is everything from original artwork and ceramics to antique furniture to fortune tellers.  Vintage clothing booths are common as are too, the regular garage sale type items.  In Woodstock, the food is almost enough to draw the crowds, everything from vegetarian hot dogs, to pickles made by the Amish villagers.  There are many music performs, from local unknown bands to more popular and famous artists.  Beginning in May and running through the month of November, the market takes place every weekend, Saturday and Sunday.  And from June to September, the market opens up its doors on Wednesday’s as well.

Launching a website

Monday, July 27th, 2009

The economy has forced a lot of people to think about where they are going with their lives. The only good thing that comes out of a bad economy is that people get a chance to figure out what they really wanted to do with their lives. Finding passion in your work is one of the most rewarding things a person can find. If you want to get up and go to work everyday you are more likely to want to do well in your job.

If you have gotten laid off from your previous job it is time to think about what you would make your career if you had to do it all over again. Figure out if you think you could go it out on your own and start your own business. The best way to go about starting your own business is to think about your strengths and weaknesses. Also, think about offering the public something that you think is missing in the market.

That is what Steve Barbarich did. He found a gap that he saw in the market and he did something about it. While he was shopping for a hot tub on the internet he found that he received little customer service after he had a problem with the one he purchased.

So, he decided to launch a website that sold hot tubs and offered customer service.

Take this story into consideration if you are thinking about launching your own website. Figure out where you have felt that service or a product could have been better and think about how you could do it better.

Launching a website is also no easy feat. You need to plan it out and make sure that you have a good business plan. All planning aside, however, launching a website is something you should think about as an option.

Grilling to Shred and Rip

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Summer time is upon us and the time is to chill out in the sun, start firing up the built in grills or relax at the beaches. Summer time also means it’s time to get your body into shape. That’s if you want to be noticed as you chill out in the sun, flipping burgers at the grill or walking along the beach. And do you want people will notice all the hard work you put into building your body and ask how you got ripped to shreds? Well, hang on to your hat’s because it’s rip time.

If you ask any body trainer, they will tell you using heavy weights will build up bulk and that using lighter weights will define and bring out that sought after ripped look in the muscles. But, I found a way on how to get ripped without wasting precious time and energy on useless exercises. I found out the truth about weight versus lightweight ways of building muscle mass, a way of getting cut and ripped. What everyone knows about getting shredded is complete wrong. There is no scientific basis to support this type of weight training at all.

The fact is, it’s not possible to spot reduce our body. It’s not possible to target any one specific area of the body for fat loss. Such as performing squats with light weights will not burn fat off your legs and make them look hard and cut. Every time you workout and lift a dumbbell, a barbell or cable it, think about stimulating as much muscle fiber to grow as humanly possible without steroids. The mindset needs to be changed and you need to forget about all of that illogical advice claiming to get a certain area of the body hard and ripped. So, if you want to know what it’s like to get ripped to shreds, one solution is to train as hard as you can and start combining exercises to your workout to target your entire body and not just specific parts of your body.

Bidoun

Monday, June 1st, 2009

It might be commonplace among savvy travelers that for excellence in hotels, Dubai, UAE is a breed apart.  The gorgeous beaches and rich urban environment speak to a city built for international guests looking for an experience deep in luxury and culture.  Expectations run high, and it is no small fete that the same guests return year after year.  Recently, Dubai has been experiencing a surge in international residents, as economic opportunity grows along with a fascinating artistic identity.

This artistic identity is a key piece to the puzzle that is Dubai, a port city that has always been in touch with the world at large, but suddenly connecting to global artistic themes, and even setting trends, as never before.  With extremely knowledgeable scholars and critics, and a very smart and sophisticated artist base, there is a dialogue in the city that every traveler picks up on.  Bidoun Magazine is one beautiful example of this savvy in print.  Begun in 2003 as a forum for writing about art, culture, and contemporary life, this quarterly is achieving a Harper’s level of status, and the organization that puts out the magazine is also sponsoring highly-visible public events.  There is no doubt that culture is being reflected in the pages, and possibly, and even likely, is also being shaped here.

Antonia Carver, one of Bidoun’s more visible editors, speaks to the surge in art activity in the past few years as stemming from a few key high-ticket auction items that brought the art world’s attention to the city.  There is also, she suggests, a number of other factors at work here.  The other factor is one of the larger art fairs, Art Dubai, which has grown exponentially, due in large part to the visionary efforts of the organizers, as well as the city’s ability to respond to such efforts.  Whatever the cause, it is certainly a fascinating and complex theme, and many variations on the theme, and many more, are played on with intellectual deftness, and a wicked sense of humor, in Bidoun.

The Winelands of Cape Town

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Cape Town is magnificently beautiful, naturally.  Like one with experience gains beauty, the heritage, the history and the culture draw many tourists and visitors to Cape Town, South Africa.  Hotels are booked far in advance in the regions that the vineyards are located and it is best to make reservations for accommodations in advance.  One of the best aspects of the Cape, is in the Winelands.  Just forty-five minutes from down town, a short drive, lands one in the mountains so splendid and the backdrop so lush and dramatic, the vineyards of the Winelands and the Dutch style of the architecture from long ago is entrenched in history.  The beauty and the hospitality of the people of these regions such as Paarl, Franschhoek Stellenbosch and Roberson gives one the sense of the Breede River Valley and the joy that is South Africa.

The vineyards are surrounded by beautifully refurbished buildings and walk ways.  The streets offer monuments, museums and historical centers, all paying homage and respect to the vast and rich history that so many South Africans are rightly proud of.  World renowned wines are produced in this regions of South Africa, and the winemakers will take those interested on tours of their cellars and vats.  Harvest time is one of the best times to visit, as every lover of wine is astounded by the delights and the flavors of this region, from the smokey reds, to the clear and fruity whites. This is a great starting point for any tour that will take one around the Cape.  Luxury abounds at every corner and the boutiques and artist coves, and bed and breakfasts lend themselves to creating memories that will last a lifetime.  The palette will never be disappointed as many of the wineries offer up festivals that celebrate the wine and cheese of the region.

Laptop burns

Friday, May 29th, 2009

While inspecting my body before stepping into the shower, I discovered something strange. A few inches above my right knee, I noticed dark burn marks. I spend quite a bit of time on my laptop in bed or in my overstuffed chair and the air vents are located on the bottom right side. I can only conclude that I’m being cooked by my laptop. This is the first time I have noticed these distinct marks on my legs. This was my first MacBook Pro; I usually am on a PC, but a friend of mine lent me her Mac because my PC was getting the mother board replaced and I need to finish up a report about Perth Hotels Australia before a deadline.

After my shower I decided to do some research, ironically, using the MacBook Pro and see if there were other people complaining about laptop leg burns. I found out that Apple’s MacBook Pro in known to run quite hot. MacBook’s exterior casing has been documented by a laser temperature gauge of 142 degrees Fahrenheit. 61 degrees Celsius. According to standard burn safety protection measures, a 3rd degree burn can occur after only 5 seconds of exposure to 140 degree heat. There have been several report on the Mac regarding burns.

Further research revealed what sounds like an urban legend. Apparently, a Swedish scientist was using his laptop computer while sitting in his armchair at home and typing for about an hour, he occasionally felt the heat from the laptop on his thighs and would adjust the computer position which would temporarily relieve the discomfort and he would then continue to with his work. The next day, he noticed an irritation in his nether regions and decided to see his doctor about it. He found out that he was suffering from ‘penile and scrotal blistering, which the blisters broke and he developed an infection in the wounds causing extensive suppuration suppuration. He was wearing pants and underpants when he was using the laptop. So, now that I to have experience something similar, I will from now on work on my laptop on a desk or table top.

Chaos Theory in love

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I was with a friend at a coffee shop drinking a Chai Latte and he was drinking a Mocha and discussing Chaos Theory wondering if the postulate of its basic assumption that complex and unpredictable results can and will occur in systems that are sensitive to their initial conditions. And that a common example of this is known as the Butterfly Effect stating that, in theory, the flutter of a butterfly’s wings in China could, in fact, actually effect the weather patterns in New York City. In other words, it is possible that a very small occurrence can produce unpredictable and sometimes drastic results by triggering a series of increasingly significant events, could also be applied in our room at one of the New York Business Hotels.

Would something I did on the twin bed situated on one side of the room cause a totally unexpected effect on the other side of the room where his single bed is located. I know, my friend and I are geeky, and yes we don’t have girlfriends, but at the same time, what a fascinating experiment that would be. We only had one more day in the New York Hotel room and we wondered if that would be enough time. Also enough time to come up with what the initial event could be that would be worthy and give a drastic result. We could throw in maybe an Attractor, a set to which a dynamic system evolves after a long enough time. We didn’t have the time. We then thought about using something from The String Theory, but, not being scientist, only scientist Wanna-Be’s, we didn’t know if we could mix the two, or could we? After all Chaos Theory emerged as a trans-disciplinary and institutional discipline under the name of nonlinear systems. And Alluded to a concept of paradigm shifts.

We finished our perspective drinks and headed on back we decided that experimenting in the hotel room would not be a good idea and it would be hard to, if we were successful, the same effects anywhere else. But, we were happy with the idea all on it’s own. We’ll both have to write about it on the wall of our Facebook accounts.

Salim Al Hatawi

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Playwright, Salim Al Hatawi, died in April after undergoing heart surgery. After what seemed like a successful surgery, he went home to recover. While he was at home his health began to deteriorate quickly and he was rushed back to the New Dubai hospital, where he passed. He was one of the most popular and significant playwrights of the UAE and wrote over 20 plays in his career. He also wrote two short films, six television dramas and four radio plays. He was just beginning his recovery from heart surgery when his health began suddenly to decline. His work was popular locally and also brought international recognition to the Dubai theatre scene. He will be greatly missed and one can only wonder at how many other great works he might have written had he lived.

Locals and tourists alike would make an evening out of dining in one of the best restaurants Dubai , followed by a theatre performance. One of the gifts of writers is that their work lives on after their death, and he will be remembered in the hearts of those that loved him and also in the continued staging of his work. Al Hatawi died at the young age of 47 and was buried at Al Quoz cemetery. Many of his collogues and other theatre professionals were at the funeral as well as numerous community members and theatre enthusiasts that appreciated his work.

Al Hatawi was interested in social critique and evaluation of its relationship to cultural heritage. One of his consistent themes dealt with social progress and lost heritage. He was aware of contemporary issues and was concerned with the darker side of what progress brought. He looked at the underlying aspects in social classes and injustice. He was trained as an engineer and received his degree from the United States. When he returned to the UAE he explored his interest in the arts and director Omar Gobash encouraged him to write. His first play, Ahlam Masoud was written in 1994 and won the Best Script award at the Sharjah Theatre Festival that year.

It’s Not You, It’s Me

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

When it comes to business hotels, Dubai is exceptionally situated.  Being one of the most influential economic urban areas in the world, and in  a beautifully stunning location, Dubai is the host to some of the most lucrative business deals the world has ever seen.  Whether your stay here is for a large-scale international project, or a more modest agenda, there is much to see and do in the city.  The food is incredible and the atmosphere is vibrant and fascinating.  There is also a growing presence in the international cultural scene.

For the year 2009, it will be remembered as the first year an Arab Gulf nation had a presence at the Venice Biennalle.  The UAE Pavilion, sponsored by the Emirates Foundation and the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, exhibits from June through November.   The curator for this is Tirdad Zolghadr, an internationally recognized scholar and filmmaker, and is initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development.  The Pavilion will be a showcase for artworks and a forum for Arab presence in the contemporary international arts scene.

Dr. Lamees Hamdan, the Commissioner, and board member of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority is in charge of development and presentation of the Pavilion.  The title of the Pavilion, “It’s Not You, It’s Me,”  is a playful comment on the position of the Arab Gulf nations at this festival and in the art world in general, taking this opportunity to describe itself and enact its own birth, as it were, in the international consciousness.  It is also describes how it sees itself in a broader context, with regard to art practices, documentation, and cultural production.  This is a remarkable event, not only in terms of an international cultural dialogue, but in illustrating a nation’s ability to demonstrate an ironic presence.  The Pavilion will showcase works by Lamya Gargash, the featured artist, works by Ebtisam Abdul-Aziz,
Tarek Al-Ghoussein, Huda Saeed Saif, and, Hassan Sharif, documentation of a Dubai performance by the Jackson Pollack Bar, and conversations about the cultural life of Dubai.  This exceptional exhibit will be regarded as a memorable rise in Dubai’s presence in the cultural world marketplace.

What is corporate team building?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Corporate team building is just a fancy word for creating a team. Remember when you were a little kid and to build morale on the t-ball team your coach would promise to take the team out for ice cream if you won? Corporate team building is kind of like that, only instead of a t-ball uniform, the attire is a little more buttoned up more suits and shoes and less dirt and cleats.

Corporate team building can easily be achieved by a variety of methods depending on the type of business you are running or involved in. Even large companies thrive on a feeling of camaraderie and togetherness.

A good way to think about it is the NBC show “The Office”.

The show is about a paper company branch in Scranton, Pennsylvania. And despite everything, it is the most successful branch of the fictional paper company. Steve Carrell’s character Michael Scott is the king of corporate team building. Even if his methods may seem questionable, he wants his Dunder Mifflin office branch to run and operate just like a family. And of course, in families there is always going to be something to solve or overcome.

Whether it be a potluck or a softball team, corporate team building is important to the success of any company. You can teach as many leadership skills or business training methods as you want, but if there is not a desire to work for someone other than just yourself, the message of a company may be doomed to fail.

It’s all about getting along really. Michael Scott in “The Office” does what he has to do, even if it is unorthodox, and the joke is at his expense, to get the job done. If that means having a Café Disco in the storage closet, then he is game.

More Cement in Singapore?

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Many of those who travel to Singapore are concerned about the plans for the construction of a gambling casino in the city. The wildlife and natural reserves, and the rain forest, are in need of protection and those that oppose the casino believe that the money spent on such an institution would be better spent on the protection of the environment. In a city already known for the cement buildings and the over all feel that gives to those coming to the island for the traditional festivals and celebrations, one more big cement building is just going to add to the destruction of what could be a very beautiful city. The Bukit Timah reserve just outside the city, is in the middle of the rain forest, the waters surrounding the island are filled with marine life, coral reefs and endangered species. Many would like to see the city invest in the rich beauty that is natural to the location, and to the treasures that exist. Many visit Singapore on business trips and stay in five star hotels Singapore has built just outside of the downtown area. They state that it is a nice benefit, to be able to get away from the cement city and experience the outdoor aspects of the country, and that by building one more large structure, with the sole purpose of making money is going to further aggravate an environment already in need of protection.

Past travelers state that what brings them to the city, is not the downtown area. And that further, one more casino will not succeed in bringing tourists to the island. Again, it is the beauty of nature that draws people from all over the world again and again. Casinos around the globe are a dime a dozen. One more cement building will not accomplish what one of only two cities that exist in a rain forest can not. If Singapore stopped the building today, they will still have what many large cities in Europe or the United States do not have. A thriving trade center, with big business and the nature of the region all wrapped into one small island. They have been able to combine the aspects of the business world and the beauty of the natural world up to this point. The island is not going to get any bigger. Brings to mind what may happen if the city of Manhattan decided to put skyscrapers in Central Park. Where would one be able to escape to for a bit of peace and the outdoors, when all that is surrounding one is water and cement?

Strength and Growth During These Economic Times

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Not many companies, much less large cities, can say that their position during these economic times is one of strength. But that is just how is was stated by the executive chief of the Singapore Tourism Board, Aw Kah Peng, this past February at a convention aimed at protecting the tourist driving sector of the economy. The Board along with the government of the island have proposed a stimulus plan of initiatives that top 90 Million dollars, offering deductions and financial help in the most successful, stable and promising businesses in the tourism and service sector. This plan was developed before the loss of jobs, attacking the future and insuring that those in the Singapore luxury hotels, travel agencies, resorts and tourist attractions will remain to enjoy not only job security, but growth as well. An aggressive and pro-active approach as the people in the world right now, are spending less money on things such as travel, for business or for holiday. Singapore’s reputation as one of the premier destination sites for travel has been extremely well established over the years. Entertainment in the form of festivals and celebrations have brought millions to the city for vacations, and the strong sectors in technology, medical research and business practices of the city, have attracted many international conventions.

Travel habits have changed for most of the world’s population over the last few years, with many traveling shorter distances for shorter amounts of time. Still needing or wanting to ‘get out of town’ and still doing so, just in a manner more cost efficient. Part of the incentive plan is a change in the marketing of tourism, providing means and enhancement and special rates that would make Singapore an attractive option for this. Businesses from different sectors are combining forces to come up with commercial marketing campaigns, as the continued influx of travelers benefits all those involved. The goal for 2009 is to continue the growth and the strength of viable and long standing businesses and the continued growth and strength of the island of Singapore on the whole.

Sports Car Sales to Rise for UAE Dealer

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

While most of the world is cutting back on luxury items as the economy continues to flail, one car dealer in the Middle East is predicting a rise in sales of expensive sports cars over the next year.

Liberty Automobiles created a “performance car corner” at the Sharjah showroom. It is designed to showcase and promote sales of Chevrolt speciality and high performance vehicles. It is hoped this will help the dealer capitalize on the “increasing demand in performance cars during the past year.”

Despite the economy, UAE Emiratis and expatriates will still seek out their sports cars. Even though industry experts are predicting a significant drop in Middle Eastern car sales, the dealership predicts their sales will increase by 50% in 2009.

One of the obstacles to acquiring a sports car for sale is financing. With financial institutions around the globe tightening their credit requirements, many buyers are being shu out of the market. Liberty has gone directly to the source. They have negotiated an agreement with Abu Dhabi Ilamic Bank to help their customers obtain the necessary credit with fewer obstacles.

Liberty saw a 30% increase in sales across all product lines last year. While they don’t expect to see that general growth, they do expect their sports car division to rise by 50%. Liberty has showrooms in the northern emirate Sharjah and Dubai. They ae a GM dealer

Customer Complaint Management

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Customer complaint management is a vital component of organizations both in the private and public sector.  It can be viewed as feedback or information relating to your products and services.  Therefore this information should be properly managed.  The goal of customer complaint management is to effectively provide feedback to the client with a view to increasing customer satisfaction.

Satisfaction occurs when the members of the organization understand customer expectations and them work with them to improve service levels. The challenge arises when there are multiple departments interacting with customers and they each have their own agendas.  This is where organizational wide complaint management software is essential.

Complaints management software helps the organization in the following ways.  Complaint management gives the organization an opportunity to redeem itself in the eyes of the customer.  In other words it gives them a second chance to make things right.  It also helps to identify where improvements are needed and allows customers to play an important part in these improvements.  This is the philosophy behind continuous improvement.  Finally it helps to lighten the workload within the organization.

The key to customer complaint management is to truly listen.  Listen because the customers who complain are usually just the tip of the iceberg of customers who are dissatisfied.  It is important to gain an understanding of the complaints and make the changes to resolve them.

Corporate Team Building Empowers and Shows Leadership

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Team-building has been a buzz word for the past several years in the world of business and for good reason. Corporate team building takes employees out of the office and helps them learn how to be team players. In fact, employees actually become more successful and motivated in business by letting their personal guards down and having fun.

Corporate team building will impact your business in positive ways because these activities break down political and personal barriers, eliminate distractions and allow your employees to have fun. You will see them bonding with each other to create a stronger team back at the office.

High-impact learning experiences empower individuals while leadership increases along with communication. The skills your employees learn have immediate applications and these exercises create better work, better thinkers and a community of team players, contributing to a common goal.

In fact, one of the best ways to increase productivity is to enroll your team of employees in a team-building course. They will not only gain skills to help your business succeed, they will appreciate the change of scenery and the knowledge that you want them to succeed.

Cuil Enters the Search Wars

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Look out Google, there’s a new search engine on the block. It’s named “Cuil” and pronounced “cool.” The cuil.com start page style is very simple and clean, an apt choice for the search engine openly challenging their competitor Google. Created by industry veterans Anna Patterson, Tom Costello and Russell Power the new search engine is creating a significant amount of buzz on the Internet by promising searchers an improved search experience over that of its competitors. Promises of better, more organized results have yet to be seen since its launch. ZDNet featured an entire photo gallery filled with screen shots of disastrous search results. With Yahoo! and MSN still in the mix, the Search Wars is entering what should be its most interesting episode yet.
