April 23rd, 2008 Cartographers Improve Quality of Maps
The maps of South America and other places that hang on the walls of many schools and even homes are much improved compared to years past. This is because companies that design maps now use highly skilled cartographers that are very knowledgeable about the features on maps.
For instance, maps of Afghanistan from several years ago would not have some of the cities that are now found on maps of this country. The cartographers decided back then that certain towns were too small to go on a map. Now, however, if the town is significant, it will be included.
Vietnam maps used to only have the capital Hanoi on it. Now the capital and other important cities are included. Rivers and other geographical features of importance are shown clearly.
With all of the improvements, it is a wonder that so many people to do know how to read maps.
