The Ancient City of Kolkata

Kolkata was previously known as Calcutta.  It is currently India’s second largest city after Mumbai.  The city lies on the east bank of the River Hooghly.  It has a population of over 15 million which makes it the third largest city in India.

During the British Raj Kolkata was the capital city of India and it developed into a center for scientific, industrial, cultural and educational advancement.  During the later part of the previous century this advancement slowed but India has been booming recently and the city is again prospering.

For tourists Kolkata is an exciting city to visit as it offers many contrasts and is full of culture, spirituality and creativity.  The city has a multitude of accommodation options including five star Kolkata hotels.  There are many fine dining experiences to be had in some of the cities great restaurants.

Kolkata has many places to see and things to do.  There are many museums and art galleries as well as historical buildings and temples.  The city was the birthplace of modern Indian artistic and literary thought.  The natives have a special appreciation for art and literature.

Mumbai is a major city in India that was previously known as Bombay.  The city has a colorful past and you can view this in the many mosques and museums that are located around the city.

Mahatma Gandhi lived here and his house is now a museum. The Colaba District is popular with tourists looking for great shopping and historical places.  One example is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station – a beautiful building.  Nearby is the Gateway of India Museum.

Visitors can stay in five star hotels Mumbai.  Shopping is a popular pastime in Munbai and most things can be purchased here including designer clothes, books, CDs and gifts.   The Gateway of India has lots of tourist items including pottery, carved items, silver, scarf’s, and brass.  Tea, jewelry and carpets are also popular with tourists.

Cuisine in Mumbai is unique!  Dishes are laced with exotic spices and delicious vegetarian entrees and side dishes. Service is top of the list for both hotels and restaurants in the city of Mumbai.

Loch Ness in Scotland

Loch Ness is the second largest body of freshwater in Scotland.  It is 23 miles long and close to the town of Inverness. At its deepest point it is 754 feet deep.  It contains more water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined.  The visibility of the water is very low due to the high content of peat entering it from the surrounding soil.  Loch Ness is famous around the world as the home of the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie).

Loch Ness is a popular holiday destinations.  The area is steeped in history, castles, natural attractions and legend.  It is a wild and romantic place with am abundance of wildlife.  The area is the perfect base for a vacation in the Highlands.  Accommodation ranges form traditional hotels to bed and breakfasts.  Another option is to rent a Loch Ness holiday cottage.
