Isle of Skye, Scotland

The Isle of Skye is the largest island of the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. It is a rugged island with the Cuillin Hills at its center. Skye’s main town is Portree with a population of just under 2,000.  In the old days the island was dominated by two clans – McLeod and Donald.  The islands population was decimated by clearances and famine in the 1800s.

The Isle of Skye has spectacular scenery, legends, vibrant culture and history.  It has a wide array of wildlife including the Red Deer Golden Eagle, and Salmon.  There are many activities for tourists to the island.

Skye is romantic and draws visitors to the island from all around the world.  It is one of Scotland’s major tourist attractions.  There is ample accommodation including Isle of Skye bed and breakfasts, hotels and guest houses.  There are also many restaurants which offer traditional food and drinks such as haggis, local seafood and whisky!
